This presentation summarizes investigation of the structural and electronic requirements for alkane dehydrogenation activity on a series of single site transition metals. Spectroscopic and mechanistic investigation reveal a non-redox mechanism, and indicate roles for Lewis acidity, metal hydride bond strength, and metal oxygen bond strength in determining catalytic activity.
