Numerous ketonization catalysts were screened. Promising catalysts were validated in a flooded bed bench-scale system with model and real feeds. ZrO₂-based mixed metal oxides were superior to undoped ZrO₂. Activity with real feed was about one-half when compared to similar tests with model compounds.
