Functionalized activated carbons displayed high catalytic performance in the acetalization of acetone with glycerol, achieving glycerol conversion up to 97% with high selectivity towards solketal under mild and environmental friendly conditions (solvent-free reaction at room temperature) and with a lower catalyst loading compared to that used for state-of-the-art heterogeneous catalysts.
