Liquid flow microcalorimetry (FMC) is a valuable tool for the characterization of heterogeneous catalysts, particularly for hydrogenation reactions relevant to in fine chemical manufacture.  Enthalpies of adsorption are directly measured for a variety of functional groups on a range of catalysts, providing insight into adsorption mechanisms that affect catalytic processes.
