By conducting a comparative study of metal oxide promoters for Co Fischer-Tropsch synthesis catalysts, we show that the effects of these promoters on catalyst activity and product selectivity are consistent with enhanced CO adsorption. Higher promoter Lewis acidity is shown to correlate with larger improvements to the product selectivity.
