The modification of cobalt(II,III)oxide nano-cubes with tetra-ethoxy silane results in the formation of Co-O-Si bonds mimicking the formation of metal-support bonds. The presence of a small amount of these moieties in the catalysts results in a drastic  increase in the turn-over frequency for CO hydrogenation.
