C-H bond activation is the sole kinetically relevant step in CH4 activation on Ni and Ni-M (M=Cu, Co, Fe, K) catalysts. Ni clusters decorated by Co bind CHx* and H* more strongly and thus stabilize CH4 activated complexes to a larger extent than other Ni-M (M=Fe, Cu, K) catalysts.
