Confinement and strength of Brønsted acid sites influences the catalytic fate of butanal deoxygenation and thus the distributions of oxygenates, diene, alkenes, and aromatics in the products. These results provide guidelines for the catalyst and process design for the catalytic deoxygenation of aldehyde fractions in bio-oil for hydrocarbon fuel production.
