The low-T mechanism of Standard SCR of NOx over metal-promoted zeolites is debated. BaO/Al2O3 mixed with Fe- and Cu-zeolite catalysts (chemical trapping) enables the stabilization of NOx intermediates and their direct observation by IR spectroscopy and other techniques. Nitrites are found to be the intermediates formed upon NO oxidative activation.
