The once-through Fischer-Tropsch process must be optimized with respect to catalyst activity and selectivity. The CO-conversion over cobalt-based catalyst decreases with conversion as described by various rate expressions. The increase in CO-conversion over iron-based catalysts seem to be limited by thermodynamic factors.
