Aromatic Ring Activation of Furanic Compounds on Ru-Based Catalysts

We demonstrate that the Ru mediated H/D exchange of alkylated furans with IPA-d₈ occurs at the unprotected a-carbon via a ring-opening pathway via a combination of isotopic labeling and computation studies. This could be a key mechanistic step in the upgrade of furanic platform molecules via hydrodeoxygenation and ring opening.
