The work identifies the most efficient alkali promoters and precursors for direct olefin synthesis from syngas on supported molybdenum sulfide catalysts. The presence of very strong basic sites is not favorable for carbon monoxide conversion. The selectivity to C2-4 olefins, methanol and higher alcohol is attributed to mixed alkali-Mo sulfides.
