In liquid-phase acid catalysis, the solvent(s) will impose as significant effects as acid strength and confinement by creating diverse solvation interactions with all states along the reaction trajectory. We aim to understand the thermodynamic and kinetic origins of solvent effects in a variety of acid-catalyzed reactions involved in biomass conversion.
