Chemical treatments of ordered mesoporous carbon using HNO3, NH4OH/H2O2 and KOH evidenced severity trend: HNO3>NH4OH/H2O2>KOH. Catalytic performance evaluations at similar reaction conditions showed superior total alcohol productivity for HNO3-treated supported-OMC catalyst as compared to its NH4OH/H2O2 and KOH counterparts; probably due to the greater number of surface oxygen-containing functional groups.
