In situ surface structural changes of copper-based model catalysts under ambient pressure gasses (CO, H2, O2) were investigated by scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS). Mass transfer of Cu in reducing conditions as well as redox cycles were observed and identified.
