We identify the fundamental interactions between Lewis and Brønsted acid catalysts in solutions and we optimize their concnetrations for the one-pot conversion of glucose to HMF via a fructose intermediate. Such reactor negates the equilibrium limitation since fructose would be consumed as it is produced minimizes catalyst and separation costs.
