Titrations using gaseous NH3 enable quantification of Brønsted acid sites present on catalytic surfaces before, during, and after reaction. NH3 titrations on Cu-SSZ-13 zeolites, detect kinetically-relevant H+ sites generated in situ during the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx, providing a new mechanistic link to SCR redox cycles proposed earlier.
