The majority of surface species on different Pd/TiO₂ catalysts prepared by impregnation, sonochemical, and electroless deposition after chemical reduction were Pd⁰, Pd⁰/PdO, and PdO₂, respectively. High activity in benzyl alcohol oxidation requires the combination of metallic Pd⁰ and palladium oxide species.
