Understanding the mechanism of the HDO of carboxylic acids over metal catalysts is a prerequisite for the design of novel catalysts for upgrading of bio-oils and fatty acids. We investigated the HDO reaction mechanism of propanoic acid on Pd, Ru, Pt and Rh catalyst models and estimated the role of solvents.
