Following activation in CO or syngas, samples were retrieved from the CSTR and solidified in wax for XANES analysis.  The electronic state of Cu is critical to controlling Fe-catalyzed FTS selectivity, with an oxidation state of +1, like that of K promoter, decreasing light gas selectivity and promoting C5+ selectivity.
