Mo₂C is stable and highly selective catalyst for vapor-phase HDO of lignin-derived phenolics, including anisole, m-cresol, guaiacol, dimethoxybenzene, and eugenol, to form BTX. Oxygen modification of the surface prevents successive hydrogenation reactions.
