First Catalytic Stobbe Condensation

We developed an one-pot synthesis of arylidene and alkylidene succinates utilizing inexpensive and commerically available phosphinecatalysts. The sope of this metal and base free route to arylidene and alkylidene succinates was evaluated. We present the synthesis of over 40 succinates derivatives in up to 95% yield and a feasible mechanism.
