A microkinetic model is constructed for all steps involved in the Fischer-Tropsch reaction. Using surface reactivity descriptors, the kinetic operation regimes in FT are studied. Our analysis shows that the current generation of FT catalysts are suboptimal as their rate is controlled by CO dissociation and oxygen removal as water.
