Support Roles in Pd Catalysts for Total Methane Oxidation

Activities of Pd catalysts for total methane oxidation depend on support composition: Pd/Al₂O₃ > Pd/ZrO₂-CeO₂ > Pd/CeO₂. Activity depends on the density of PdO-Pd* site pairs, which, in turn, depends on the stability of surface PdO. CeO₂ delivers an especially stable PdO, which accounts for its relatively low activity.
