Three chemical imaging techniques with different spatial resolutions have been applied to investigate the deactivation of cobalt Fischer-Tropsch catalysts. We observe changes in the macro- and nano-distributions of cobalt in a single catalyst particle. Cobalt forms a more homogeneous macroscopic distribution, including a 1-2 nm cobalt layer around titanium oxide.
