The physically mixed catalyst self-assembled during the thermal treatment. The alloyed catalyst showed larger particles, but significantly increased activity, implying that the per-site activity has increased dramatically compared with Pt or Pd alone. This work provides opportunities in cost-effective catalyst design for future automotive and other industrial applications.
