Detailed experimental and theoretical studies are carried out to determine how the structural and compositional changes that occur over supported metal catalysts under reaction conditions control the active sites, kinetics and governing mechanisms for the reactions of CH4 with O2 and H2O. The results provide insights into structure-reactivity relationships that control methane conversion processes.
