Fundamental mechanistic information about the reaction kinetics furfuryl alcohol, a component in biomass conversion, can be discovered though shape and chemically tailored cavities created by atomic layer deposition (ALD). ALD is a highly uniform synthetic method for creating nanoscale films of metals and metal complexes with atomic precision.
