We clarified N2O formation pathways by analyzing surface and gas-phase chemistry of a commercial lean NOx trap catalyst under relevant lean/rich cycling conditions. The results highlight the importance of understanding spatiotemporal evolution of PGM redox state and formation and oxidation of N- and C-containing intermediates in developing LNT kinetic models.
