Establishing the Connection between Geometric and Electronic Structures of Oxygen Species on Ag Surfaces: First-principles DFT and Monte Carlo Studies

A direct connection between the geometric structure and electronic fingerprint of oxygen species on silver has been established. The work presented here identifies multiple origins for electrophilic oxygen species under relevant conditions for ethylene epoxidation reaction. The study sheds light on our understanding of critical factors governing surface reactivity.
