The reaction pathways and kinetics of the lignin hydro-pyrolysis vapor model compound dihydroeugenol (2-methoxy-4-propylphenol) over a Pt/ZrO2 catalyst were studied. Three main reaction pathways were identified: hydrodeoxygenation, transalkylation, and hydrogenation. The kinetic results suggest that the mechanism of ring hydrogenation for dihydroeugenol is similar to that of other aromatic compounds.
