We assess via simulation the potential of highly conductive structured multi-tubular reactors (loaded with copper honeycomb monolith and open-cell foam) for the methanol synthesis. Thanks to their dominant conductive heat transfer mechanism, independent of the mass flow rate, these reactors outperform commercial packed-bed reactors when short tubes are employed.
