Cracking of 1-pentene is quantitatively described on the level of elementary reactions. The intrinsic Ea of 192 kJ/mol of cracking to ethene and propene suggests cracking via carbenium and carbonium ions to be energetically identical.  Butenes and hexene form via a monomolecular pathway above and via dimerization below 500°C.
