HDS of thiophene on Re and ReSx, which form stable structures under conditions relevant in industry, occurs on exposed metal sites via elementary steps that are consistent with those previously reported on Ru and Pt and corresponds to trends in reactivity consistent with their sulfur-metal bond energies.
