The Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst prepared by gel co-precipitation was investigated for a glycerol hydrogenolysis process to produce propylene glycol. It exhibited higher catalytic activity compared with other preparation methods. The propylene glycol selectivity strongly depends on the hydrogen pressure. The by-products are formed due to the presence of acetol.
