Significant improvment of Ru/C catalytic performance is obtained by doping phosphorus, where the P/Ru ratio is much lower the stoichiometry value to form bulk phosphides. This kind of catalysts can be easily prepared by impregnation method and used to bio-oil upgrading processes.
