We demonstrate here control of alkene and alkane chain growth on solid acids by preventing β-scission pathways during oligomerization through confinement and by promoting hydride transfer during homologation with external hydrogen in bifunctional systems as promising routes for the production of higher molecular weight hydrocarbons for fuels.
