Structure Sensitivity in Oxidative Coupling of Methane over MgO

We studied a series of MgO catalysts prepared by different methods. The initial activity of MgO depends on catalyst synthesis. IR spectroscopy provides quantitative correlation between the abundance of defects on the surface and the C₂ formation rate. Based on these findings, a model for methyl radical formation is proposed.
