P-M-Cle-12 Microwave-Specific Catalysts and Catalysis; A New Paradigm for Energy Efficient Heterogeneous Catalysis

Magnetic oxide catalyst  rapidly and selectively oxidize methanol to formaldehyde with microwaves.  Specifically, under mild condions (1 atm O2 @ 60 °),  CuCr2O4 yielded a ~25 % conversion of 6 ml of a 1:1 MeOH:H2O solution to formaldehyde.  Significantly,  only ~2% conversion was obtained thermally.
