Oxygen evolution is the rate-limiting process in water splitting. Thus, we aim to understand the reaction mechanism on TiO2 and TiO2/Au. By measuring their water-splitting activity as a function of light intensity and temperature, we propose to explore the characteristics of the involved holes including their origin, mobility and localization.
