Strongly adsorbed hydrocarbon fragments constituted by the precursors of α-olefins and amorphous polymeric carbon formed from alkylindene groups have been uncovered in the alumina supported cobalt Fischer-Tropsch catalysts used in slurry reactor under different conditions. Both these species seem to be deleterious to the catalyst activity.
