P-M-BRC-3 Colloidal Synthesis of Au-Containing Bimetallic Catalysts

Bimetallic AuPt and AuPd catalysts uniform in size and composition were prepared by colloidal methods using no contaminating species. The formation mechanism was examined using in-situ UV-visible spectroscopy, revealing a galvanic displacement step that deposits the Au3+ precursor onto Pd0 or Pt0 clusters. Measures to ensure uniform mixing are discussed.
