A new PdRe/C catalyst shows improved hydrodeoxygenation performance for lignin pyrolysis model compounds relative to monometallic catalysts, including Pd/C, Ru/C and Re/C. PdRe/C was characterized by XAFS, TPR and TPHD.  Our results suggest that PdRe/C may also be more effective than monometallic catalysts in catalytic upgrading of fast pyrolysis oils.
