In a heterogeneous gold nanoparticle catalyst, the catalytic contributions of sites such as corner and edge atoms are investigated in a model reduction reaction system.  The corner atoms, are the most active by over an order of magnitude compared to edge atom sites, whereas terrace sites are completely inactive.
