The addition of water to the CO/C3H6/O2 reaction results in remarkable improvement in the low temperature activity of Pd/Al2O3  making them suitable for removal of CO and C3H6 from diesel exhaust. Using isotopically labeled gases provides real insight into the mechanism by which water catalytically promotes these oxidation reactions.
