The addition of water to the CO/C₃H₆/O₂ reaction results in remarkable improvement in the low temperature activity of Pd/Al₂O₃ making them suitable for removal of CO and C₃H₆ from diesel exhaust. Using isotopically labeled gases provides real insight into the mechanism by which water catalytically promotes these oxidation reactions.
