Towards Oxidative Catalytic Depolymerization of Lignin and Lignin Model Compounds

Compounds modeling the β-O-4 linkage in lignin were selectively targeted for catalytic oxidation of benzylic hydroxyl groups under mild conditions. The product ketone was then subjected to Baeyer-Villiger oxidation and hydrolysis, resulting in selective deconstruction of the lignin models.
