The structure of dispersed molybdena has been studied using in situ Raman spectroscopy under reactive and non-reactive conditions. The detailed structure, i.e. the ratio of monooxo and dioxo species strongly depends on temperature and gas-phase composition due to equilibrium shifts resulting from hydration/dehydration of the catalyst in agreement with theory.
