Hydrolysis of Guaiacol in High Temperature Water with Mineral Acid as a Catalyst

Guaiacol is hydrolyzed in high temperature water with hydrochloric acid as a catalyst. Catechol is the main product with a high yield of 89% after 3 h. The pH value and gas atmosphere play important roles on the reaction. Besides, the kinetics are studied and a mechanism is proposed.
