The highest gasification rate of ash-free coal catalyzed by K2CO3 was obtained when the sample was heated in an inert environment and then maintained at 700°C for 150 min before gasifying. Likely this heating protocol allowed the catalytic species (-COK and/or –CK surface complex) to be produced.
