Ethanol and butanol are converted to the Guerbet products over Copper/Zinc catalysts in the gas phase. Our approach comprises of untangling the three steps of the Guerbet reaction, optimizing them separately and assessing which steps can be combined. The three steps are: alcohol dehydrogenation, aldol condensation and rehydrogenation.
